Genealogy Program: “Calling All Readers: A Literary Trove for Jewish Genealogists”
The next meeting of the JGSMD will be held on March 23, 2014, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of Ner Tamid Synagogue (6214 Pimlico Rd, Baltimore). Ellen Cassedy, author of We Are Here: Memories of the Lithuanian Holocaust, will present “Calling All Readers: A Literary Trove for Jewish Genealogists.” Learn about an array of literary treasures that will educate, inspire, and entertain you as you pursue your Jewish family roots. Ellen Cassedy will introduce you to fiction, memoirs, genealogical journeys, children’s books, and a few odd findings she promises you’ve never heard of. Through images, descriptions, and very brief excerpts, you’ll learn about books that bring to life the experiences of our forebears in the Old Country, elucidate the Jewish immigrant experience, and illuminate the quest for family roots. Be ready to add your own suggestions. You’ll come away with a reading list of terrific reads and a list of blogs and web sites for further browsing.
The program is free for paid members and $5 for non-members (applied to membership fee when a visitor joins JGSMD). Refreshments will be available. Please check our web site at www.jewishgen.org/JGS-Maryland for late updates and for the time, location, and program of future meetings.
