“Looking Beyond the Basic Records”
The next meeting of the JGSMD will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center-Park Heights, in Baltimore. The meeting will begin with the election of officers for 2014-2015. The program will be presented by Lauren Orenstein of KinFinders NYC, a genealogy and research firm based in New York City. In anticipation of our group’s summer field trip to New York City, which is expected to include opportunities for personal research at the New York Public Library and the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, this program will focus on the research materials available and the information they can illustrate. Take a journey through two families’ histories to discover the genealogical resources available beyond the Federal Census and vital records. Learn how archives such as probate, property, newspapers, and landsmenschaften can expand your research and offer a better understanding of the lives your ancestors lived. New York City has wonderful resources—even for people whose families have never lived in New York.
The program is free for paid members and $5 for non-members (applied to membership fee when a visitor joins JGSMD) after their first meeting. Refreshments will be available. Please check our web site at www.jgsmd.org for late updates and for the time, location, and program of future meetings.
