Gerry Sandusky, sports director at WBAL in Baltimore and the radio play-by-play voice of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, will participate in a special book signing event to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Maryland Chapter.

Knowing the value of a good name, Gerry has had to endure having one of the most unfortunate names in sports today, but to him the Sandusky name means honor, integrity, endurance . . . as well as suffering and sadness. FORGOTTEN SUNDAYS is Gerry’s coming of age story about a son’s relationship with his father; as well as a story of love, loss, acceptance, and living in the shadow of the NFL.

His father, Jon Sandusky, who played with the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers, became head coach of the Baltimore Colts, as well as assistant coach under legendary coach Don Shula of the Miami Dolphins. His life revolved around football and family.

Gerry spent his summers observing his father in NFL training camps and his Sundays with superstars, Hall of Fame players, and coaches from Johnny Unitas to Dan Marino, from Don McCafferty to Tom Landry. He would follow in his father’s footsteps and have a career in sports.

In FORGOTTEN SUNDAYS, Gerry shares the most poignant moments of his life, including:

  • The memory of sharing an elevator with Coach Shula, Johnny Unitas, and his father after the Colts’ devastating loss to the Jets in Super Bowl III
  • Learning about how his father sang to his dying wife in the hospital
  • His father’s remarriage so soon after his mother’s death
  • Watching his father face a losing battle with Alzheimer’s disease
  • Discovering the news of Penn State’s Jerry Sandusky’s arrest, while on his way to Pittsburgh with the Ravens

Due to his personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease, Gerry has teamed with the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Maryland Chapter to share what he has learned with others who have family members experiencing this devastating condition.

In recognition of this partnership, Greetings & Readings will donate a portion of sales of Gerry’s books sold that day to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Maryland Chapter. (Receipts are required and coupon purchases don’t apply.)
