Design, build, and test your own moving sculpture in our Cardboard Automata Competition.  A cardboard automaton is a crank operated machine that combines the use of simple machines with storytelling and is made mostly of recycled cardboard and bamboo skewers. Whether you are inspired by the story you wish to tell, or the mechanical movement you envision, art and technical engineering will have to blend together for success in this competition!

We will provide basic instruction, tips, and hints—you take care of the rest. To register for the competition, email your name to CardboardChallenge@marylandsciencecenter.org.
