Bring your dog the First SUNDAY of each month at 11 am! Hike on the grounds of our animal shelter’s forested wildlife sanctuary in Reisterstown, led by Dr. Mary Zink, Baltimore Humane Society Veterinary Medical Director of the Low Cost Veterinary Wellness Spay/Neuter Center.
· Approximately 45 min-1 hour in duration
· BYO DOG (Proof of rabies vaccination required)
· Rain or Shine
· $2 per dog participation fee and no prior registration required
· Moderate hiking level so dog and hiker need to be able to maneuver trees, hills, and streams
· All dogs must be on a 4-6 ft leash (no retractable leashes permitted) and walked by a hiker that is 14 years of age or older
· Bring plenty drinking water for yourself and your dog
· Appropriate hiking attire is recommended à comfortable, flexible, closed-toe shoes and durable clothing that can withstand mud, tall grass, twigs, stickers, stream water etc.

Medieval painters often filled their manuscripts with scenes of everyday life that included charming illuminations of people and animals playing musical instruments and dancing. Many of these images, however, functioned as sophisticated symbols that conveyed a complex understanding of man’s relationship with the order of the universe. Musical harmony and dissonance were thought to mirror the perfection of heaven as well as the disorder of evil. This exhibition, composed of approximately twenty manuscripts and objects, will explore music in its relationship with philosophy, religion, and the arts during the Middle Ages.
Jewish Community Services (JCS) is holding its annual School Supply Drive to benefit children of client families who lack funds to purchase these necessary items for starting the school year. Spiral notebooks, 3-ring binders, lined notebook paper, pens, colored markers and pencils are especially needed. All donated items must be new. Gift cards with values of $10 or less for Staples, Target, Walmart and other stores are also welcome. The 2014 JCS School Supply drive runs from July 28th through September 12th. Donations of new school supplies may be dropped off at either of the JCS office locations: 5750 Park Heights Avenue in Baltimore or JCS at the JCC, 3506 Gwynnbrook Avenue in Owings Mills, during regular business hours. On Wednesday, September 10 from 5:30 to 8:30pm, Business Volunteers Maryland will help prospective volunteers get involved in their communities by connecting them with 15 to 20 nonprofit organizations and city agencies at doSOMETHING!
Sponsored by Structural Group and taking place at Humanim’s Baltimore office, September’s doSOMETHING! event will link volunteers with nonprofits focused on community strengthening, vitalization and redevelopment. The evening begins with a keynote address on building stronger communities by Henry Posko, President and CEO of Humanim, the nonprofit organization providing services and workforce development to individuals with disabilities in Maryland. Attendees will then take part in a speed networking exercise where they will meet representatives from nonprofits to learn about key volunteer needs and register to get involved and “do something” with an organization and make an impact in Greater Maryland. Beer, wine and light fare will be provided.
