Renbaum Joins Carroll Bank

Carroll Bancorp, Inc., the parent company of Carroll Community Bank, announced the appointment of Barry J. Renbaum to its board of directors.

Renbaum was the co-founder and co-manager of Custom Savings Bank, a $350 million federal savings bank that consistently outranked its peer institutions in terms of profitability and asset quality. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Rider University, where he earned a B.S. degree in business administration. Following his graduation from Georgetown Law School, he was appointed law clerk for Maryland Court of Appeals Judge John C. Eldridge.

Lawrence Joins BBBSGC

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake announced that Michelle Lawrence has been hired as director of marketing and communications, a first-of-its-kind role for the organization. Lawrence comes to Big Brothers Big Sisters from the second-largest running organization in the country, Atlanta Track Club. She brings with her a variety of experience developed in the advertising, sports marketing and nonprofit industries.

Lawrence is from Florida and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. degree in advertising from the University of Florida. She started her professional career at Doner, a mid-size agency in Atlanta, where she managed every aspect of agency of record work for fast food, retail and higher education brands. After years in advertising, Lawrence made a transition to nonprofit marketing, most recently working as brand marketing manager at Atlanta Track Club, where she implemented the first rebrand in the organization’s 50-year history and handled all communications for the organization, including the world’s largest 10K running event.

Sanssin, Pritts Join Gordon Feinblatt

The law firm of Gordon Feinblatt LLC announced that Lynn B. Sassin has joined the firm as chair of the Trusts & Estates Practice Group. For more than 30 years she has provided counsel to individuals and families focusing on estate and tax planning, wills and trusts, estate and trust administration and charitable planning.

Sassin is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, where she serves as the Mid-Atlantic Regional chair; a member and past chair of the section council of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Estates and Trust Section; and a member of the Baltimore Estate Planning Council.

Christia A. Pritts has also joined the firm as counsel in the Trusts & Estates Practice Group. She has more than 10 years of experience in all aspects of estate and tax planning and the administration of estates and trusts.

Pritts is a graduate tax scholar and earned a LL.M. from Georgetown University and a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.

Heneson Honored by PRSA-MD

With more than 30 years of proven public relations experience and a commitment to give back to the community, Bonnie K. Heneson has been selected as the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient by the Public Relations Society of America Maryland Chapter (PRSA-MD). Heneson was honored at the association’s Best in Maryland gala at the Hilton Baltimore.

“Bonnie is the driving force behind Bonnie Heneson Communications,” said BHC executive vice president Kyri Jacobs. “Her energy, enthusiasm and altruistic spirit are boundless. And, her go-getter attitude was certainly the impetus more than 20 years ago for starting her own business, which today has grown to a thriving full-service communications agency.

Bernstein to Rejoin Zuckerman Spaeder

Zuckerman Spaeder LLP has announced that outgoing Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein will rejoin the firm on Feb. 2, following the completion of his term in office.

Bernstein was a partner at Zuckerman Spaeder from 2004 to 2010 until he was elected Baltimore City State’s Attorney. In that capacity, he managed an office of more than 400 prosecutors and support staff responsible for investigating and prosecuting criminal offenses throughout the City of Baltimore.

“Gregg is widely admired and is a terrific lawyer,” said Martin S. Himeles Jr., managing partner of Zuckerman Spaeder’s Baltimore office. “He has long been a good friend and was a valued partner, and all of us are delighted that he will be rejoining the firm.”

As the City State’s Attorney, Bernstein spearheaded a number of major initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the office and, as a result, improve public safety throughout the city. He created the Major Investigations Unit to pursue repeat, violent offenders; established community prosecution teams dedicated to each of the city’s neighborhoods; and launched the Special Victim’s Unit to prosecute sex and domestic violence offenses more effectively. Bernstein also expanded the State’s Attorney’s Office’s diversion programs for select nonviolent defendants.

“The past four years as Baltimore City State’s Attorney have been an extremely rewarding and fulfilling experience, and I look forward to beginning this new phase of my professional career with the strong and talented lawyers at Zuckerman Spaeder,” said Bernstein.

Fleet Feet Sports, a locally owned and operated running store in the Baltimore area, has been honored as a Top 4 finalist for Store of the Year out of more than 800 running specialty stores nationwide.

The announcement comes from Competitor magazine, which each year partners with trade publication Running Insight to identify the best 50 running stores in the country. Honored as a Top 50 nominee since 2011, Fleet Feet Sports was a Top 4 finalist for the first time in store history.

Baltimore County Employee Honored

Baltimore County’s minority & small business marketing manager, Carla Tucker, was recognized recently by the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Minority and Women’s Business Development for her successful efforts to promote the success of local minority- and women-owned businesses. She received the Parren J. Mitchell Gladiator Award, which honors exemplary public servants who provide assistance and support to minority- and women-owned businesses.

A seven-year Baltimore County employee, Tucker spearheads the County’s efforts to educate minority and women business owners about available resources, contracting opportunities, procurement processes, law and terminology and to help small businesses connect with larger firms for subcontracting work.

“I am truly honored by this recognition and am blessed to be in a position to help so many small businesses remain competitive and to promote a level playing field for minority- and women-owned businesses,” Tucker said.

Allegheny Health Partners with Hopkins

Allegheny Health Network has acquired majority ownership of Klingensmith Healthcare, one of Western Pennsylvania’s leading suppliers of respiratory and home medical equipment  and related services. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

According to John Paul, president and CEO of AHN, the acquisition of Klingensmith represents another significant step forward in efforts to establish more comprehensive community and home-based services to complement AHN’s broad spectrum of inpatient and outpatient programs.

In early November, AHN also announced a joint venture with Celtic Healthcare to create the region’s second-largest provider of home health and hospice services.
