Songs from the Past-Songs of our Future: The Beautiful Music of Hallel

with Cantor Jan Morrison

February 18, 25; March 11
7:30 p.m. – 8:45 p.m.
The Meeting House, 5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia
Hallel is recited on festivals and on Rosh Hodesh. What is so powerful about psalms 113-118 that they be marked as expressions of joy at past miracles and our faith in future ones?
Who recited Hallel first? Was it by the Jews at the Red Sea? Or, was it Joshua defeating the kings in Canaan? Or, was it Deborah and Barak when they destroyed the army of Sisera?

Rich in history, and powerful in language, these psalms have been a source of inspiration, learning, and musical momentum for three millennia. We’ll delve into the commandment of reciting Hallel.

Join Cantor Jan Morrison in an exploration of the psalms that comprise Hallel.

Gal Perlmoter, Jewish Federation of Howard County’s Israeli Shlicha presents “Women of the Wall (WOW): 25 Years of Struggle”. WOW is a feminist organization based in Israel whose goal is to secure their rights to pray at the Western Wall in Israel in a fashion that consists of singing, reading aloud from the Torah and wearing religious garments. Sounds intriguing? Do you know what the WOW is all about and what it means? Be assured that this is not for women only, but a concern for all of us.
