Urban Gardening Workshop: Seed Bombing

Who: Ages 13+ (Under 16 needs to participate with an adult)
Where: The Shed

This spring, the Maryland Science Center is your place to go to learn the basics of gardening and get your plantings ready for the summer.  A series of urban gardening workshops covering a range of topics are available for you to participate in.

Join the Maryland Science Center in The Shed for a Seed Bombing Workshop, led by the Baltimore Free Farm. A seed bomb is a mixture of clay, compost and seeds formed into balls that can be thrown into abandoned lots, forests, or anywhere you think could use a little more greenery. Participants will make and take home their own bag of seed bombs along with the seed bomb recipe. All materials will be provided.

Get to Know NOAA − A Saturday Series at the Maryland Science Center

A four part series designed to help explore our world and learn how NOAA—the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration—takes the pulse of the planet every day and protects and manages ocean and coastal resources.  Get to Know NOAA with a series of hands-on activities for ages 5 and up. Meet and talk with NOAA scientists who work to understand our environment, protect life and property, and conserve and protect natural resources.

Session Topic:

Build a Buoy – Join NOAA in this hands-on activity where children and adults can design, build, and test their very own buoy, all while learning how NOAA uses buoys to study oceans and estuaries.

Suit Up for Survival – Boating safety starts with having the right gear, including life jackets, first aid kits, locator beacons and nautical charts. Learn how to stay safe at sea and try your hand at suiting up in a bright orange survival suit!

Reinvent U Boot Camps Grand Opening/Community Fitness and Wellness Fair

Reinvent U Boot Camps is hosting a community fitness and wellness fair on Saturday, May 31, to celebrate the grand opening of its Pikesville center at 1501 Reisterstown Road. The fair is free to the public and will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the parking lot of
the premises. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include scheduled guests: Vicki Almond, Councilwoman, Baltimore County, 2nd District, and Edwin Avent, co-founder of Soul of The South Network and former Heart & Soul magazine publisher.

The fair will feature blood pressure, glucose, vision, and dental screenings, food tasting demo, fitness demos, massages, vendors, live
entertainment, giveaways/raffles, and face painting for kids. Doresa Harvey, Heaven 600 AM radio personality, is the Mistress of Ceremony.

Guest appearances from Former Original Harlem Globetrotter Charles “Choo” Smith, Jr. and a few Baltimore Ravens players.
