Kristallnacht 75th Anniversary Concert: Voices of the Holocaust

The 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht will be commemorated with Voices of the Holocaust, a concert presented by the DC metropolitan area Jewish synagogues combined choirs at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda on Sunday, November 10, at 7:30 pm. This spectacular choral work highlights melodies from the ghettos and concentration camps of Europe. It is a tribute to all who endured the devastation and turmoil of the Holocaust.

Dear Mom and Dad

“Dear Mom and DaD:  A Celebration of the life and service of Sergeant Herbert Rosencrans”

A Theatrical reading by Catherine Ladnier and Haya Leah Molnar

Sergeant Herbert Rosencrans, the first-born son of Jewish immigrants from Russia and Austria, was the boy every Mom and Dad wishes for and prays will become the man every Mom and Dad looks up to.

Herb’s legacy lives on not just in the memory of his family but in the letters he wrote to them which trace his love of family and country:

“We should get down on our knees and thank God every day for being born American. I fight now to come home.  I fight to deserve to come home.  May God grant me that privilege. When you crack open that champagne bottle this New Year’s Eve, look at each other and say ‘For Herb and Victory’. You will know that I’m sitting there right beside you.  Your loving son, Herb.”

Herb was killed in 1945 and awarded the Silver Star.

Guests can create Holiday Mail for Heroes for the American Red Cross. Families can also participate in a kid-to-kid craft project.

$10 ticket price includes drinks and light fare.

“Parenting Without a Partner”-Parent Discussion Series

JCS offers a parent discussion group series addressing the many challenges of parenthood.  The group will be held monthly, 6:00 – 7:30 pm,  at Jewish Community Services in Owings Mills, 3506 Gwynnbrook Avenue.

Join with other parents  for “Parenting Without a Partner”. Beth Land Hecht, LCSW-C will facilitate.

And mark your calendars for this upcoming sessions:

December 10: “As A Parent, Knowing When to Hold and When to Fold”

Babysitting is available and provided by the JCC. There is a 2 hour time limit and the cost would be $4.50 per child.  These passes may be bought in advance or at the Front desk on the day of parent discussion group.
