Two Rooms

Stevenson, MD—Stevenson University’s Theater Department debuts its portrayal of Two Rooms, a provocative drama centering on an American teacher held hostage in Beirut, on Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. at Stevenson’s Studio Theatre, located on the University’s Greenspring Campus, 1525 Greenspring Valley Road, Stevenson, MD 21153.

Performances continue Friday, October 11; Saturday, October 12; Thursday, October 17; Friday, October 18; and Saturday, October 19—all at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $6 for seniors, and $5 for students. Call 443-334-2618 to reserve tickets.

Written by Lee Blessing in 1988, Two Rooms, details the story of a hostage locked in a dark cell dictating unsent letters to his wife. At the same time, his wife holds a vigil back in their home while managing the interests of a journalist who intends to take the story public and a State Department official who wants to keep her quiet. Two Rooms navigates the real and imagined worlds of the four characters, three of whom are played by Stevenson students. (The fourth actor is a Stevenson alumnus who graduated last spring.)

“It’s a powerful human drama that takes place on the world’s stage,” said Adjunct Theatre Instructor Linda Chambers, the show’s director.  “The cast did a tremendous job of bringing reality and poignancy and drama to these roles. We have very talented actors. No one is going to see this show and feel as though they’ve seen a student production.”

The Studio Theatre is a 65-seat, flexible staging and production space designed for a more intimate audience than the University’s main Inscape Theatre. For more information on show times and upcoming performances visit stevenson.edu/explore/theatre/.
