Flicks from the Hill: Finding Forrester

Grab a blanket, picnic under the stars, and watch a great film selection inspired by AVAM’s current exhibition THE ART OF STORYTELLING: Lies, Enchantment, Humor & Truth! The Hughes Family Outdoor Theater features seating for more than a thousand on the natural amphitheater formed by Federal Hill; a 30-foot wide screen held from above by a Giant Golden Hand; a twinkling view of the city; and an amazing community experience that is FREE. Find out why AVAM’s ‘Flicks’ series was listed by Travel + Leisure Magazine as one of the “World’s Best Free Things,” and frequently tops many other “Best Of” lists around the city. Patio Party at the Maryland Science Center!

This summer, the Maryland Science Center will liven up its harbor terrace with tunes and treats at its all-new Patio Party series. Patio Parties will occur on select Fridays as part of discounted admission for Fridays After Five in July and August.

These summertime celebrations boast all the fun of Fridays After Five, plus live, family-friendly music, good food, beer, wine and soft drinks – available for purchase at happy hour prices! And it all happens right in Baltimore’s historic Inner Harbor on the Science Center’s outdoor patio.

Patio Party Band Schedule:

July 12 – Featuring rockin’ surf band 
July 19 – Featuring blues group Kelly Bell Band
August 9 – Featuring Beatles tribute band
August 16 – Featuring eclectic five piece band 

Fridays After Five takes place every Friday in July and August from 5:00-8:00 p.m., including full admission to the Maryland Science Center, with an IMAX screening and a Planetarium show – all for a discounted $8 (free for members).

The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

THE POTENT OBJECT showcases the power of small-scale sculptural works. Featured artworks are no larger than 12 inches in any direction, but possess a much larger presence. Composed mainly of ceramic, with the possibility of some mixed media additions, these objects prove that something doesn’t have to be huge to be monumental.

In the Solo Gallery:  2ND ANNUAL SOLO CUP BENEFIT EXHIBITION. Hundreds of cups generously donated by ceramic artists to support our organization and programming. The artists donated them out of kindness, but it also provides an opportunity for them to win a Solo Exhibition in our gallery.

In the Community Arts Gallery: COMMUNITY ARTS TEACHING ARTISTS. This exhibition features the artwork of our Community Arts teachers, demonstrating their creativity, innovation and commitment to community and the arts.
