Sam Nitkin, son of Karen and David Nitkin off Ellicott City, became a bar mitzvah on May 11, 2013. The ceremony and celebration took place at the Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills and was organized by the Baltimore Jewish Cultural Chavurah.
As part of his bar mitzvah studies, Sam undertook a research project on shtetl life in Russia’s Pale of
Settlement as experienced by his great-grandfather and namesake, Samuel Nitkin. He also performed community service at Heartlands Senior Living Village in Ellicott City.
