I was surprised that the advocates of a bill to blacklist supporters of the boycott, divestment and sanctions didn’t say anything to defend Israel’s denial of Palestinian human rights (“An Impassioned Debate,” March 10). But they did take the time to baselessly smear Jewish BDS supporters as hypocrites.
Is it possible that Del. Ben Kramer and Sen. Bobby Zirkin, Israel’s self-appointed defenders in the State House, are silent because they know Israel’s attacks on Palestinians are indefensible?
The nonviolent BDS movement has the sole purpose of securing human rights, which means an end to the occupation, an end to anti-Palestinian discrimination and the right of return for Palestinian refugees. Maryland lawmakers and Jewish institutions would be better off speaking up in favor of that agenda, instead of silencing advocates for peaceful solutions.
