Jennifer Asher and Sephy Bounan love to travel, especially to the beach. So it was only natural they would opt for a destination wedding at sunset with a backdrop of water.

The pair married Nov. 3, 2012 at the Sandpearl Resort in Clearwater, Fla., overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Everything was perfect — from the cloudless, blue sky to the 75-degree climate.

About an hour before sunset, they met in the lobby behind drapes and poles. They held hands and talked but — intentionally — didn’t muster even a glimpse of each other. Even their pre-wedding photos were taken separately to build the anticipation. Sephy departed for the white awning chuppah outdoors, where 125 friends and family members awaited.

Shortly after, Jennifer appeared in a long, white strapless lace dress on the arms of her parents, Ellen and Myron Asher of Owings Mills. As she approached Pikesville’s Gili Gueter and Michael Bounan and their son, she locked eyes with Sephy, who looked elegant in a black tuxedo. Both stopped to take in the moment. Sephy was crying as he looked at her.

“It was really special,” says Jennifer, 28, a tax manager for Baker Tilly, a public accounting firm in Tysons Corner, Va.

Rabbi Michael Torop from Temple Beth El in St. Petersburg, Fla., performed the traditional ceremony. As they prepared for their first married kiss, a tourist pirate ship cruised by, shooting off cannons. It was an unplanned tribute to their nuptials that could not have been timed better.

The wedding also paid tribute to their love of the Ravens, with a color theme of purple, black and white
and gifts to their bridesmaids and groomsmen of Ravens flip-flops to better navigate the sand. Sephy, too, wore Ravens flip-flops, but Jennifer chose wedges to combat their 14-inch height difference.

The following morning, after brunch, friends and family members joined the couple at a local bar for lunch and the Ravens game. They will honeymoon to the Greek Islands in August.

Sephy and Jennifer met through mutual friends in Canton. After spending an entire evening talking, they began to date. They alternated locations — in Baltimore where Sephy lived and in Northern Virginia where Jennifer resided. Although they tried to take things slowly, both knew early on they would be together for the “long haul.”

Sephy, 32, a financial analyst with Booz Allen Hamilton, proposed at Gravelly Point Park near Reagan
National Airport, where they often spent afternoons picnicking and watching planes fly overhead. Sephy hugged Jennifer from behind, and when she turned around he was on bent knee with a diamond in a red box (they designed the setting together).

Today, they continue to enjoy their sunsets — at the park and at the beach, as long as they are together.
