Gourmet Again Chef Appears on ‘Cutthroat’

061314_mishmash_foodMelissa Fordham, head chef and one of the most requested at Pikesville’s Gourmet Again Catering, will appear on Alton Brown’s “Cutthroat Kitchen” this Sunday, June 15, at 10 p.m. on the Food Network.

“Panini, Meeny, Miny, Moe,” the episode in which Fordham competes, is the last show of Season 3. Though sworn to secrecy about any details of the event, Fordham said “it was a lot of fun, I would totally do it again. I’m definitely open for trying other shows that were as crazy and chaotic.”

“Cutthroat Kitchen” is a reality show featuring four chefs challenged to cook gourmet dishes that are judged by a guest celebrity. Auctions are introduced in the scenarios, whereby chefs can bid for things to sabotage their competition, purchase special ingredients or make an ingredient or gadget off limits to other chefs.

This is not the first time Fordham has been tapped for a reality cooking show. A few years ago Bravo contacted her for a show called “Around the World in 80 Plates.” She went through interviews and jumped through all the hoops but never heard back from them. So when a producer from “Cutthroat Kitchen” contacted her in October 2013 after reading about Fordham’s participation in other cooking competitions and asked for photos and video, she was skeptical but went through with it anyway. Fordham had not heard of the show but said, “Sure, I’m interested.”

The week of Thanksgiving, Fordham explained, “they called me and said, ‘Melissa, we are 99.99 percent sure we’d like to have you on the show.’” Fordham responded, “When will I know about that other percentage, we’re busy!” A few days later, they sent her flight information about going to film in Burbank on Dec. 6, 2013. In the beginning of February 2014 they were finally able to tell her when the show would air. Watch this Sunday, and find out if she won!
