Winter Mountain Soup

(Pareve or meat)

2  3⁄4 cups chicken broth, pareve or regular
1⁄2 cup cooked barley or white or mixed wild rice
1  8-ounce can chick peas, drained
1  8-ounce can sliced carrots, drained and slightly mashed
1  8-ounce can mushrooms, stems and pieces, drained
4- to 8-ounce frozen mixed vegetables, optional
Salt and pepper to taste
A few drops hot sauce, optional

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat on top of the stove, stirring gently. Can be frozen. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
