Now you really know there’s an economic meltdown turning everything once taken for granted inside out.
How else can one react to the news that the Workmen’s Circle/Arbeter Ring –– with its deep roots in the Jewish socialist labor movement –– is promoting credit cards?
Yes, the group recently announced its affinity marketing effort via the Visa Platinum Card. The move, according to a press release, will be “generating awareness and incremental revenue for the group.”
Ann Toback, executive director of The Workmen’s Circle/Arbeter Ring, had this to say: “I am thrilled that we can offer our members a new way to help our organization as they make their day-to-day purchases. It’s a unique way for our members and friends to support our progressive work building Jewish cultural identity.”
So it is that the Workmen’s Circle will earn $50 every time a supporter activates a card, plus an ongoing share of the charge volume for the life of the program.
Mind you, this group once brought us the social crusading Yiddish der Forvards newspaper. Now, apparently, they’re more into promoting a great financial “win-win” in the glorious capitalist system.
No word yet as to whether the profits will be distributed evenly among members.
