Neil Diamond Surprises Boston with ‘Sweet Caroline’

Like many Americans, Neil Diamond was so devastated by the Boston Marathon bombings that he wanted to do his part to help the city’s recovery.  As soon as Diamond heard that the April 20 Red Sox game would go on as planned (it was the Sox’s first home game since the bombing), he and his wife took a red-eye flight from Los Angeles so he would be able to express his support for the city and its residents.

According to MLB.com’s Jason Mastrodonato, Diamond surprised the crowd during the eighth inning with a live performance of “Sweet Caroline,” his classic song that has been played at least once at a Red Sox’s home game since the early 2000s.

“I was humbled and honored to be able to personally thank and express my gratitude to the first-responders and law enforcement officers,” Diamond said.
