Winging It

For those who are still getting over the Ravens heartbreaking AFC Championship loss, Super Bowl Sunday will not be the same. Not only for Ravens fans, but also, believe it or not, for chicken wings.

According to the NPD Group, a national research company, a Super Bowl between the New York Giants and the Baltimore Ravens would have produced the maximum wing consumption out of the four Super Bowl match-ups. Still, according to the National Chicken Council (NCC)’s 2012 Wing Report, more than 100 million pounds of wings will be consumed this Sunday.

Wings are second to dips and spreads in terms of food consumed on Super Bowl Sunday.

So, what’s on the menu for one local Giants fan?

Ellicott City resident Scott Stern says that for the main course he plans to order pizza. Expecting up to 28 friends, he thinks pizza is a good choice, because he can determine quantity once he sees how many people actually attend. He then counts on his friends to provide dips, guacamole, chips and desserts. As for wings? Not on the menu, unless someone brings them, he says.
