Lawyers Volunteer For Low-Income Residents
In the past year, 188 lawyers provided free or reduced-fee legal services to low-income Baltimore City residents through the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service.
Founded in 1981, MVLS is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal assistance to low-income people throughout Maryland. In the past year, 815 volunteer attorneys accepted and closed nearly 3,000 pro bono cases, donating legal services valued at more than $4.2 million. MVLS handles cases involving family law, landlord/tenant disputes, consumer rights, denial of public benefits, wills, deed changes, name changes and tax disputes.
