As of Sept. 8, all branches are open for four hours, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., every Sunday. The change, said Heidi Gillis, BCPL’s marketing and development manager, was something many in the community were anxiously awaiting.
“Customers wanted Sunday hours,” said Gillis. “People have been asking for Sunday hours year-round across the board.”
The BCPL opened in 1948 and is composed of 19 branches and four bookmobiles. It provides resources to the suburbs surrounding the city of Baltimore. Before this extension, only four branches had year-round Sunday hours, and many had only seasonal Sunday hours. The library’s new schedule will mandate that every branch embrace Sunday openings.
